This course will be delivered online and will cover the risk factors for mental health, common mental health concerns that we face in school environments. We will also look at strategies for preventing mental health issues and promoting well-being for teaching staff to be aware of when teaching students
The sessions will focus on identification (signs and symptoms); intervention strategies for staff; outside agencies to use for support; encouraging support mechanisms in school and at home.
The course specifically covers the following areas:
- Background to youth mental health and basic principles of support
- Depression
- Anxiety disorders
- Suicide ideation
- Supportive next steps (for the young person and those around them) for each of the above
- Plenty of opportunity for Q&A
